As you may know genetic testing is a big part of what we do here at Countryside Breeders. We pride ourselves in doing our due diligience to give you puppies you can be proud of. But have you ever wondered what each classification means? To begin you need to understand what F1 classification is. When a pure bred is dog is born if they are bred responsibly an owner can get them tested and certified as a pure bred of whatever breed they have chosen, in our case Bernese Mountain Dog or Poodle. If that pure bred is then bred with another purebred of a different breed you get a F1 hybrid. For CountrySide Breeder we have Duke a purebred poodle and Dottie a purebred Bernese Mountain Dog. When the two of them have bred in the past we get F1 Bernedoodles. These are dogs that are truly 50% Poodle and 50% Bernese Mountain Dog.

This now brings us to our F2 puppies. These are puppies bred by two F1 dogs. In our case we breed two F1 doodles together, an F1 Bernedoodle and an F1 Aussie Doodle creating our beautiful F2 Aussie Mountain Doodles. This helps increase genetic diversity, improve health and creates a beautiful variation to the coat types, colours and markings.

This makes your future pup extra special as you get a companion with the same temperament that you would expect in an Aussie Mountain Doodle but with a unique look that is truly all their own.

With an F2 litter you may get puppies with Wavy coats (most common), curly coats (heavier doodle influence), or straight coats (less common). All coat types within our F2 Doodles are low to non shedding, but it's the texture that varies between each pup even within the same litter. Not only do the puppies have varying textures to their coat but they can also have a variety of colours including tri-colour, blue merle, red merle, solid colours or white markings (i.e blazes, socks collars etc.) Thats what makes these puppies so special even we don't know exactly what they will look like.

Let's talk about the cons. When people here that they are getting a mixed breed that can often come with a few assumptions. Let us clear things up to help you understand your future best friend better.

Assumptions:

  1. They won't look like a doodle

We often see people worried that with doodles is that they won't look like a doodle (curly coat), and while this can be true in F2 breed puppies we think this is what makes them so unique, we also value our owners and will help you select the best puppy for you.

  2. Coat types are unpredictable

Yes this is true we can't guarantee a coat type but we do know their unique coat will be low or non-shedding

  3. They are less healthy than F1's

This is simply untrue, F2 dogs are still very healthy and carry strong genetics from their confirmed healthy F1 parents. With early development love and care these pups will make superb healthy companions.

  4. They are harder to train or more high maintenance

Temperament in dogs is not affected by generation therefore ruling this assumption untrue. These pups are still intelligent, eager to please and loving companions. Their 8 weeks with us are spent the same way as any of our other pups with the same love, care and commitment, and they are showing us just how amazing this generation can be.

At the end of the day whether your future puppy is a Purebred, F1 or F2 you can rest assured that all of our puppies are raised with same. The perk is your F2 has it's own unique look but the same heart.
